Welcome to Silkwave. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our macOS application ("App"). Our core principle is simple: your data is yours, and it stays on your device unless you explicitly send it to an AI provider.

Information We Do Not Collect

We (Silkwave developers) do not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal information to our own servers. This includes:

  • Your name, email address, or any other personal identifiers.
  • Your chat history, transcripts, or generated images.
  • Your audio recordings.
  • Your API keys.

Device Permissions

To provide its core functionality, Silkwave may request access to specific features on your macOS device. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your System Settings.

  • Microphone: Used solely for recording your voice when you initiate a voice note or transcription. The microphone is never active without your explicit action.
  • System Audio (Screen Recording): Used solely to capture audio playing on your computer (e.g., from a browser or meeting) for the purpose of transcription. We do not record or analyze video content from your screen, only the audio stream.

Information Handled by the App

  1. API Keys: The App requires you to enter API keys from third-party AI service providers (e.g., OpenAI, Google, Anthropic) to function. These keys are stored securely in the macOS Keychain on your local device. They are never sent to us.
  2. Text & Image Data: When you send a message or request an image generation, the text prompt and any attached images are transmitted directly from your device to the selected third-party AI service provider. Generated images are saved locally to your device.
  3. Audio & Transcription Data:
    • Cloud Transcription: If you select a cloud provider (e.g., OpenAI Whisper), your audio data is encrypted and sent directly to that provider for processing.
    • On-Device Transcription: If you select Apple Intelligence or a local model, your audio data remains strictly on your device and is processed locally. It never leaves your computer.

Third-Party Services

Silkwave acts as a client to connect you with various third-party AI services. Your use of these services through our App is subject to their respective privacy policies. We encourage you to review the policies of any AI provider you use (e.g., OpenAI, Google, Anthropic).

Data Storage

All your data—including API keys, chat history, audio recordings, transcripts, and generated images—is stored exclusively on your local device. If you delete the App, this data will be removed.

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
