Recording Audio
How to capture Microphone and System Audio.
Silkwave Voice lets you capture audio from multiple sources, either from the main window or directly from the menu bar.
Audio Sources
Use the toggles to select your inputs:
- Microphone: Records external sound (your voice, meetings).
- System Audio: Records the internal sound from your computer. This allows you to capture audio from Zoom meetings, YouTube videos, podcasts, browser tabs, and more - no third-party audio drivers needed.
- Hybrid Mode: Toggle both switches on to capture your microphone and system audio at the same time. This is perfect for recording conversations where both sides need to be heard - such as interviews, video calls, or team meetings.
Recording from the Main Window
- Select the Input Language (e.g., English).
- Toggle Microphone and/or System Audio on.
- Click the Start Recording button.
- The app will begin transcribing the audio in near-realtime.
- You can pause and resume the recording as needed.
Recording from the Menu Bar
You can also control recordings directly from the menu bar without opening the main window:
- Click the Silkwave Voice icon in the macOS menu bar.
- Toggle Microphone and System Audio on or off.
- Change the transcription language if needed.
- Click New Recording to start, or Resume to continue a paused recording.
Enable Menu Bar Timer in Settings to display the elapsed recording time next to the menu bar icon while recording.
Save Audio
By default, Silkwave Voice saves the full audio of every recording. If you only need the transcript and want to save disk space, you can turn off audio saving:
- Open Settings → General.
- Toggle Save Audio off.
When disabled, new recordings will contain only the transcript - no audio data is stored. The setting takes effect the next time you start or resume a recording; it does not affect existing recordings.
