AI Chat
Ask follow-up questions about any recording in a dedicated side panel.
AI Chat lets you ask follow-up questions about any recording - pull out quotes, clarify decisions, draft follow-up emails, or rewrite sections in your own words. It is powered by ChatGPT through Apple Intelligence and runs in a dedicated side panel next to the transcript.
Requirements
AI Chat shares the same setup as AI Summarization. Before using it, you need:
- Apple Intelligence enabled on your Mac.
- ChatGPT extension enabled in Apple Intelligence settings.
- Shortcuts Events permission granted to Silkwave Voice.
- Silkwave Voice AI Shortcut installed.
If any of these are missing, the chat panel shows an "AI Chat is not fully set up" banner with a link to the setup checklist in Settings > AI Integration Shortcut. See AI Summarization > Setup for the step-by-step walkthrough.
Opening the Chat Panel
- Open any recording.
- Click the AI Chat button in the top-right of the toolbar, next to the Transcription and Summary tabs.
- The chat panel slides out beside the transcript. Click the X in the panel header to close it.
Using AI Chat
Type a question in the input field at the bottom of the panel and press Enter (or click the send button). The assistant has the full transcript as context, so you can ask things like:
- "What did James commit to by end of week?"
- "Draft a Slack message summarizing the action items."
- "What was the decision about the SSO integration?"
- "Rewrite the closing remarks in a more formal tone."
A typing indicator appears while the assistant is generating a reply. You can stop a response in progress from the send button.
Per-Recording History
Chat history is saved separately for each recording, so you can come back to a meeting days later and pick up where you left off. Switching to a different recording loads that recording's own conversation.
To start over, click the eraser icon in the chat panel header and confirm Clear. This only clears the chat for the current recording.
Only the transcript text is sent to ChatGPT for context - your audio file never leaves your Mac. macOS will ask you to confirm sharing transcript text with ChatGPT the first time you send a message.
