AI Summarization
Set up and use AI-powered summaries for your recordings.
Silkwave Voice can automatically generate structured summaries of your recordings using Apple Intelligence and the ChatGPT extension via macOS Shortcuts. Summaries are organized into key topics, action items, and an overall theme.
Requirements
Before using AI Summarization, you need:
- Apple Intelligence enabled on your Mac.
- ChatGPT extension enabled in Apple Intelligence settings.
- Shortcuts Events permission granted to Silkwave Voice.
- Silkwave Voice AI Assistant shortcut installed.
Setup
Open Settings in Silkwave Voice and go to the AI Integration Shortcut page. You will see a setup checklist with status indicators for each requirement.
1. Enable Apple Intelligence
If not already enabled, click Open Settings to navigate to your Mac's Apple Intelligence preferences and turn it on.
2. Enable the ChatGPT Extension
Click Open Settings next to the ChatGPT extension step. This opens the Apple Intelligence settings where you can set up and enable ChatGPT.
Important: Silkwave Voice cannot detect whether the ChatGPT extension is enabled. Please verify manually that it is turned on in your Apple Intelligence settings before proceeding.
3. Grant Shortcuts Events Permission
Click Grant Access to allow Silkwave Voice to run Shortcuts. See Permissions & Setup for troubleshooting.
4. Install the AI Assistant Shortcut
- Click Install AI Assistant Shortcut (available once the permission above is granted).
- A preview of the shortcut will open. Click Open with Shortcuts in the top right.
- Click Add Shortcut in the dialog that appears.
The shortcut is bundled with the app. No external download is needed.
Using Summarization
Once set up, you can generate summaries in two ways:
- Automatic: Enable Auto Summarization in Settings > General. A summary will be generated automatically each time you pause a recording.
- Manual: Open any recording and navigate to the Summary tab to generate or view the summary.
Summary Format
The AI produces structured summaries that typically include:
- Key Topics Discussed - Main subjects covered in the recording.
- Action Items / Decisions - Actionable takeaways and decisions made.
- Overall Theme - A brief description of the recording's focus.
Summarization is powered by Apple Intelligence's ChatGPT extension. When generating a summary, macOS will ask you to confirm sharing the transcript text with ChatGPT. Your original audio never leaves your device.
